Vintage Wood Planking

Reclaimed Wood Siding - Old Barn Siding - Antique Planking

Reclaimed planking decking and siding is used in a wide variety of applications which include ceiling decking, interior wall paneling, exterior siding, doors, and furniture. Like the timbers, the reclaimed lumber has been air dried over many years and, as a result, is dry and stable. Recycled planking and siding can be manufactured with a variety of milling options to suit your application. These options include tongue and groove, shiplap, edging (straightening), thickness planing (gauged thickness), and most other standard milling alternatives. Most material can be ordered in uniform width or in a mixed/random widths for additional character.

Reclaimed planking, decking, and siding is sold in random lengths and random widths unless you specify otherwise. While the specs for a product may include a range of widths and lengths in the description below, you may not receive the entire spectrum of widths and lengths as they are subject to availability. Please advise us of your requirements and any limitations in advance upon placing and order so that we can advise on availability.

Following are the various reclaimed planking, decking and siding alternatives we offer arranged by species and the various appearances available. Please use the REQUEST MORE INFO tab to receive a quote. All planking products are sold by the board foot. Visit the FAQ section for how to figure board footage.

RESAWN DOUGLAS FIR PLANK

With the horizontal bandsaw, we can produce a fresh sawn face on both sides of the planking. This will remove the patina and leave a limited amount of character marks from the nail holes, and seasoning checks. It will resemble the look similar to new, freshly sawn Douglas Fir with the main difference being its unmatched stability and the grain density of old growth lumber. This material can also then be sanded smooth or wire brushed. It is a popular choice for clean bright installations that are looking for a less rustic application but want the performance of reclaimed old growth. Sorting for vertical grain that is free of knots and nail holes is also an option.

HAND HEWN DOUGLAS FIR PLANK

Using the same hand tools as our forefathers, we can apply a hand hewn surface on reclaimed Douglas Fir planking. After hand hewing the material we pass it through our sander to remove loose splinters and give the material a polished feel that is ready for waxing. This material is popular for shelves, furniture, and ceiling and wall applications. We sell a colored wax that is typically applied to enhance the color and texture of this material. This product is supplied unfinished.

Hand Hewn Barn Plank

As a by-product of our milling operation, we occasionally generate hand hewn face cuts when saw sizing the authentic hand hewn barn beams. Each piece varies in thickness and width but can be milled to specified dimensions. If we need to generate this product by milling these “faces” off solid timbers, it is an option but generates a lot of waste resulting in a much more expensive product. This product is typically used as accent pieces such as mirror frames, or furniture but sometimes used in larger applications such as  garage doors or ceiling decking.
