Fine Aged Old Growth Timber
Timber Beams Mantles

Because reclaimed timber is air dried over a period of many years, it is extremely stable. This significantly reduces the tendency for exposed beam work to shrink, twist and pull apart, so common in applications which have used unseasoned timber. The timbers are available in unique large sizes and lengths which are often difficult to obtain through traditional green lumber suppliers. Job-site direct delivery can be arranged. Usually, a forklift will be required to offload. We provide dry, stable, high grade structural timbers which are available in both Heart Center or FOHC and can be structurally graded to meet your specifications.

We supply the timbers in the original rough condition with an antique patina which can be used as is, distressed and/or sandblasted. We can also provide a re-sawn, hand hewn, sanded, wire brushed, or surfaced appearance to your architectural specifications.

As-Is_Douglas_Fir
As-Is Douglas Fir
As-Is
As the name implies, this material comes to you in the condition we receive it from the site, with end damage trimmed and visible hardware removed. The material can have a variety of patinas ranging from painted or white washed to the original golden brown characteristic of vintage Douglas fir. The face may be surfaced or rough with the original saw marks and will have some degree of character marks from the nails or bolts it contained.

Sanded Timber
Sanded
An undulating weathered appearance can be created using a body grinder with a variety of sanding discs. We grind the surface of the beam to remove some degree of the original patina and round the edges. This can then be sandblasted to enhance the character. Alternatively, sawn material can be drum or hand sanded as an alternative to planing to create a more contemporary appearance.

Hand Hewn Douglas Fir
Hand Hewn
We can create an authentic hand hewn appearance as if the material was recovered right off the farm. Using adz axes, draw knives and sanders, we can hand hew the material to whatever degree of character you desire. The material may retain its original character, (twist & checking), or it can be sawn first to create a perfectly straight piece prior to adzing. Applying a wax finish really enhances the antique nature of this product.

Surfaced Douglas Fir
Surfaced
A surfaced appearance like that of new lumber can be provided. Surfacing does tend to blow out knots to some degree when passing seasoned dry material through a planer. This may require some doctoring on your end depending upon the look you’re after. Alternatively most material can be sanded to achieve the same effect without damaging knots.
Antique Hand Hewns
Authentic Hand Hewn Timber
Original Hand Hewn
We inventory a selection of authentic original hand hewn beams that are salvaged from antique structures such as barns and cabins circa mid 1800s. The material is usually a mix of hardwoods such as oak and black walnut which the original builder cut from the forest adjacent to the building site. The material may contain the original mortise and tenon holes and pegs.

Sawn Douglas Fir
Sawn
The fresh sawn appearance is created by removing the original face of the timber with our horizontal bandsaw. We can take an extremely twisted or bowed timber and create a perfectly straight piece, somewhat smaller than the original timber. The appearance of the final product will be similar to that of re-sawn green timber although it will usually contain a varying degree of character marks. Bolt holes can be plugged with knots or branch stock to minimize the character marks.

Box Beam
Box Beams
Box beams are created by slabbing portions of a large beam, mitreing the corners, and gluing it together. These are commonly used to wrap and conceal another structural element such as a glu-lam or steel beam to enhance the appearance. The box beam is virtually indistinguishable from solid timber.
Vigas
Vigas
Vigas
The traditional Southwest style can be created using standing dead Spruce vigas.
Latillas
Latillas
Latillas
Latillas can used instead of plaster between vigas to enhance the Southwest style. They are available in white peel, two tone peel and unpeeled.

Kiln Dried Timbers
Kiln Dried Timbers
As an alternative to air dried timbers, we offer kiln dried timber to suppliment our inventory as needed. You can expect enhanced performance regarding the stability of the material relative to movement and shrinkage. It is available in all surface appearances.
